An art museum Milwaukee wedding tends to be flashy and modern. What if you prefer a more refined, intimate atmosphere for your wedding? Villa Terrace is the perfect venue. This endlessly beautiful museum has European-inspired gardens, architecture, and decor. It was the ideal setting for Rachel and Evans’ highly-curated, intentional celebration.
Villa Terrace Decorative Arts Museum is a stunning art museum Milwaukee wedding venue. It is dedicated to preserving historic architecture, furnishings, and art. The original owner’s 1915 honeymoon in Europe inspired the Italian Renaissance architecture. It’s complete with a column-lined courtyard and statues among the hedges.
You could spend all day exploring the treasures in Villa Terrace. In addition to elegant gardens, this venue has so many beautiful rooms that are ideal for portraits. Here are a few highlights:
If you’re looking to have an art museum Milwaukee wedding, Villa Terrace offers a unique experience. Compared to the Milwaukee Art Museum, for example, Villa Terrace feels like stepping back in time. It’s a celebration of floral wallpaper, gilded mirrors, and chaise lounges. The venue gives your wedding a feeling of nostalgic elegance compared with the modern aesthetics of the Milwaukee Art Museum.
Villa Terrace is also better designed for a small art museum wedding. It has capacity for weddings of up to 120 guests. Because it was originally a home, it still maintains an intimate atmosphere that some museums lack. You really feel like you’re in a world all your own here.

This art museum Milwaukee wedding is right on Lake Michigan. The views add to the feeling that you’ve been transported to the Mediterranean despite being in the Murray Hill neighborhood of Milwaukee. Film photography preserves that feeling beautifully.
I documented Rachel and Evan’s wedding on a mix of digital and film photography. Digital is always handy for faster-paced parts of a wedding day. Film really does this venue justice, though.
The film portraits of Rachel and Evan have a timeless quality. In the garden, for example, the film photos of them with the white hydrangeas and stone staircase in the background give you the sense that these photos could have been taken any time in the last many decades.
Villa Terrace is my favorite art museum Milwaukee wedding venue because it has so many unique but cohesive spaces. Every room and garden has its own charm. That leads to a good variety of images in your wedding gallery without having to travel to multiple locations.
Rachel and Evan chose this art museum Milwaukee wedding venue because they wanted to have a beautifully curated celebration with their family and friends. They held their ceremony on the Terrazzo della Luna overlooking Lake Michigan. Their simple chuppah looked right at home between the stone details of the balcony.
For their cocktail hour and reception, Relics Rental provided a sweet little sitting area for guests to relax and mingle. Their summer florals and blue taper candles elevated the space even more. I loved the contrast of sky blues and mustard yellows at the sweetheart table.
Photographing Rachel and Evans’ Villa Terrace wedding was such a treat for me. As a wedding photographer who prioritizes nostalgic, timeless images, I felt so at home at this event and venue. I can’t wait to photograph another wedding at Villa Terrace!
