A South Shore Park wedding has an undeniable magic. The stunning lakefront views, gentle breeze off Lake Michigan, and natural beauty of the park make it a perfect setting for a romantic celebration. For Maura and Hunter, this Milwaukee wedding venue was more than just a beautiful backdrop; it was a meaningful place that they wanted to share with family and friends. Their incredible florals and elegant decor personalized the day even more.
South Shore Park is a gem of a space on Lake Michigan. It’s a public park in the Milwaukee County Parks system. You can have an outdoor ceremony and hold your reception indoors at the South Shore Terrace. It’s in the same building as the South Shore Terrace Beer Garden.
As a wedding photographer, I’m always thinking about how your gallery will look years from now. One of my favorite things about a South Shore Park wedding is that you get so many great spots for photos. On your wedding day, you get access to:
You get a natural aesthetic without leaving the city. It makes for beautiful, textured photos. At Maura and Hunter’s wedding, we got a cotton candy sky in the evening. It was stunning!
As far as Milwaukee wedding venues go, South Shore Terrace is pretty affordable. Rental costs start around $3,500. The venue can host up to 175 guests for a seated reception or 250 for a cocktail-style reception.
South Shore Park is at the edge of the Bay View neighborhood. It’s such a fun neighborhood to host a wedding. Out of towners and local guests will love having access to the dining and bar scene along with the record shops and thrift stores. There’s always something to discover.
Maura and Hunter chose to have a South Shore Park wedding because Lake Michigan is so close to Maura’s heart. Even though the couple currently lives in Washington, D.C., Maura grew up in the area. She feels a special connection to the lake and wanted to make its winds and waves part of their wedding day. The South Shore Park Pavillion allowed them to bring their guests together in a place that means so much to her while offering breathtaking views and a laidback atmosphere.
Flowers have the ability to really transform and personalize a wedding venue. The floral installations brought added elegance to Maura and Hunter’s South Shore Park wedding. These florals made the most of a minimalist palette without feeling generic.
Abundant arrangements of white roses, flowers, and greenery lined the aisles at the ceremony. A grounded arch made the ceremony space feel extra special. At the reception, the minimalist pavilion felt more “wedding” with installations around the cake and centerpieces on the table.
I understand the appeal of a South Shore Park wedding. Back when my husband and I got married, we chose to host our celebration here. It felt true to us – simple, beautiful, and welcoming.
To add a layer of beauty and nostalgia to their wedding coverage, Maura and Hunter chose to incorporate Super 8 video and 35mm film photography alongside digital coverage. The soft grain and organic feel of film added a timeless, romantic touch to their wedding story.
Candid moments and romantic portraits balance a vintage aesthetic with modern tastes. It’s easy to imagine their kids flipping through these images years from now and asking questions about their South Shore Park wedding.
I love the palette that Maura and Hunter chose for their wedding attire and decor. The bridesmaids wore mismatched blue and white dresses. They’re elegant and fit perfectly with the classic bouquets and natural setting. The photo of the bridesmaids holding their bouquets on either side of Maura feels timeless.
